Free BBQ at the Royal Bank in Support of Youth

Wednesday, June 24, 2009
11 am to 2 pm
248 St. George Street

The staff at the Annapolis Royal branch of the Royal Bank want to pay tribute to the work of ASYPS to make our community a better place. They are hosting a free barbeque at lunch. Come meet the youth who have been working on this project for over three years.

The staff at the Annapolis Royal branch of the Royal Bank selected ASYPS last year to receive $1,000 toward the construction of the Annapolis Youth Park! Staff have said that this project is "something the youth need." Thank you, RBC!

Skateboarding & Community Development

The Annapolis Youth Park project is a community development initiative through which the involved youth have learned a great deal of skills and knowledge beyond simply skateboarding. Would you believe that the same could be done in Afghanistan?

Skateistan is Afghanistan’s first dedicated co-educational skateboarding school. The school engages with the growing numbers of urbanised youth in Afghanistan through skateboarding and provides new opportunities in cross-cultural interaction and education. Student capacity will be developed in skateboarding, skateboarding instruction, project management, life skills and English. Their aim is to develop a program that empowers youth to take leadership on issues important to them and build networks that will counter current ethnic barriers.

Annapolis Youth Park Site Clean-up - Part 2

We're had another go at cutting and mowing of the Youth Park site. As always, everyone did an amazing job!

Big thanks again to Lawrie’s Home Hardware for the use of the Bush Hogg!

Eliminating Poverty One Step at a Time

Monday, October 20, 2008
Bridgetown to Halifax!

As you are undoubtedly aware, poverty is one of the most persistent issues in our province. Poverty affects our entire lives: our diet, our access to recreation, our ability to socialize, our housing circumstances, our environment, etc. This fall, one individual stood up and said, "enough is enough."

Bill walked from Bridgetown to Halifax to bring forward the message that we can and must put an end to poverty in our communities.

Coming Soon! Now all we need is money...

A barbeque was held on Friday, July 25, 2008, to celebrate our progress so far. The staff and children from Good Beginnings Day Care Centre came by for hot dogs, as well as a ladies walking group which included Mayor Jane DeWolfe. Thank you everyone for your donations!

Notice the sign on the right that announces ASYPS as the winner of the "Bloomin' Great Job" Award for Organization of the Week!

Site Preparation Underway!

Everyone was invited to join us on July 12, 2008, in preparing the future site of the Annapolis Youth Park. Thank you to all who joined us in the "Communities in Bloom" spirit as we worked together to create "a space to grow."

There was garbage to clean up, and grass and bushes to cut. There was a BBQ and refreshments.

Her Honour the Honourable Mayann E. Francis, O.N.S., DHumL, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, was in town for other festivities and dropped by for a few minutes to meet the youth who have been working so hard on this project for the last two years.

Thank you Pharmasave for donating water. It was hot!

Thank you Ye Old Towne Pub for hot dog buns and condiments. Well fed workers are happy workers!

Thank you Bill & Lee's Pizza for the hot dogs. Insert double-entendre here.

Thank you, Lawrie’s Home Hardware for the Bush Hogg!

What an awesome day! The morning rain scared us a bit, but the sun came out and so did the people. Ninja Plantation Heroes provided some live music. Tom's Pizzaria provided lunch. Annapolis County provided the half-pipe and the Town of Annapolis Royal provided the space.

The Annapolis West Senior Games group presented a cheque for $100 to show their support for the Annapolis Youth Park. ASYPS t-shirts were available (free with a donation of $20 or more), and we still have a limited supply. All told, we raised almost $1,200!!

The Big Rake

On Saturday, April 26, members of ASYPS performed a community service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Lequille. The cemetery's Board of Trustees invited the you, 2008th to help with their annual clean-up in exchange for a donation to the Youth Park. The youth spent the morning raking leaves and helping to tidy up the grounds. More photos...

Spring Fling!

On Saturday, June 7, 2008, at Champlain Elementary School in Granville Ferry, trained Skate Pass Instructors were on hand offering skateboarding lessons. What better way to celebrate Environment Week than by taking part in a mode of Active Transportation? It's good for you and it's good for the Earth.
